Grand Prix events are enormous, incredible celebrations of Magic the Gathering, which is wonderful – but it means you might have questions about some of the details. We’ve compiled some of the questions we get most often into an FAQ, hoping that we can save you some time wondering about those details so that you can enjoy our Grand Prix events more easily. If you have a question that isn’t covered here, email us at email@example.com and we’ll do our best to answer!
Registration and Pre-Event Questions
Why has the maximum capacity for each GP Las Vegas main event changed to 3,500 players?
In order to better the experience for everyone coming to Grand Prix Las Vegas, we have decided to lower the current maximum capacity of each main event to 3,500. Lowering the capacities of the main events will allow us to focus on other aspects of the event to bring all of us a truly outstanding and memorable Magic Grand Prix Experience!
If I register for multiple Grand Prix events, but I make Day 2 of a Grand Prix that would overlap with another Grand Prix I registered for, what can I do?
Option 1: Stay in the GP where you made Day 2, and drop from the next day’s GP. You’ll receive a refund for the next day’s GP (unless you purchased the Grand Prix Master package.)
Option 2: Drop from the GP where you made Day 2, and stay in the GP that starts the next day. You’ll receive 60 Prize Tix as a thank you – by dropping from Day 2 instead of simply not showing up for Round 10, you’re saving other players and our scorekeeping staff some trouble, and we appreciate that!
We realize this is a new procedure, so we’ll have drop stations near the Registration area that will be active during Round 8 of each Grand Prix Day 1 where event staff can explain your options to you and help you make your choice. If you can’t find one, ask a judge or event staff member, and they’ll bring you to the right place!
I want to sign my friend up for this event. Is that OK, and how can I do so?
Of course! We understand that not everyone uses credit cards or PayPal, and we also know it can be fun to purchase GP registration as a gift for someone else as well. Just sign up using their name and DCI number (remember to get theirs!) and then fill in your own information when it comes time to process your payment.
I filled out my name/my DCI number/something else incorrectly when I registered. What should I do?
It’s no problem at all. Simply email us at firstname.lastname@example.org with the corrections and we’ll make those on our end. If you have a confirmation email, please forward that to us as well as it will make it easier to identify your registration.
Something came up, and I need to cancel my registration. How can I do that?
We’re always sorry to hear that, but we know other things can take priority. Email us at email@example.com to request a refund. Note that some packages, like the Grand Prix Master package, do not allow for partial refunds due to non-attendance of single events, but those packages may be cancelled in full in advance of the event.
Is on-site registration available?
We offer on-site registration the day before our Grand Prix events during normal hall hours, but online registration is your best bet. There is no same-day registration for Grand Prix events, on-site or otherwise, so make sure you sign up the day before the event or earlier! For specific times that registration for each of the three GP Main Events will be open, see below:
- Legacy (June 15-16) Main Event registration will be open on site from 10 AM to 11 PM on June 14th.
- Limited (June 16-17) Main Event registration will be open on site from 10 AM to 11 PM on June 14th-June 15th.
- Modern (June 17-18) Main Event registration will be open on sit from 10 AM to 11 PM on June 14th-June 16th.
Which Last Chance Trial offers byes for the Main Event I want to play?
They all do! If you win a Last Chance Trial at Grand Prix Las Vegas, you’ll earn two byes in all three of the Grand Prix Las Vegas Main Events. Awesome!
I won a Grand Prix Trial at my local store! Which Main Event did I receive byes for?
Any Grand Prix Trial for Grand Prix Las Vegas awards two byes in all three of the Grand Prix Las Vegas Main Events, just like the Last Chance Trials do. Congratulations!
Registration Package Questions
If I have byes and a sleep-in special, how do I submit my decklist?
This can be accomplished in one of two ways:
- Email your decklist to firstname.lastname@example.org before 9 AM on the day of your Grand Prix.
- Hand a paper decklist to a ChannelFireball event staff member in the Customer Service area the day before the Grand Prix begins.
Please note that this only applies to players with at least one bye. Late submission of Sleep-in Special decklists may result in tardiness penalties.
If I register but can’t/don’t attend, can I still get the goodies that come with my registration package? If not, can I buy those items from you?
No, we can only give those goodies to players who register for and attend the event. If you can’t attend, please email us at email@example.com to request a refund.
If I purchase the Grand Prix Master package but don’t attend one or more of the events included, can I receive a partial refund?
We’re not able to offer partial refunds for unplayed events in the Grand Prix Master package.
Which packages can I apply the VIP or Diamond VIP upgrades to?
You can apply those upgrades to any of the Main Event registration packages or the Grand Prix Master package! Your VIP or Diamond VIP upgrade covers any Main Events you play in, and the side event and lounge benefits extend through all five days. If you want, you can just buy the VIP or Diamond VIP package by itself – you don’t need to apply it to a registration package if you just want to come enjoy the weekend in style without playing a main event!
Event Operations Questions
I’m registered, I’ve got my email confirmation, and I’m ready to go. Do I need to check in or do anything else?
You’re almost ready! There’s no check-in process, but you will need to fill out a waiver form online in advance of the event in order to participate. Fill out your GP Las Vegas Waiver now! You’ll also need to have a legal decklist ready at the player meeting if you’re playing in one of our Constructed events. You can download a printable decklist form here.
If I register for multiple GP Las Vegas Main Events, do I need to fill out multiple waiver forms?
Nope! There’s only one waiver for GP Las Vegas, so you’re all set once you fill it out one time.
Is there a charge to enter the event hall even if I don’t plan to play in the main event?
There’s no fee at the door, so if you’d just like to come check things out, please feel free to do so! We’ll have artists and vendors on hand, side events you can pay to enter as you choose, and lots of other awesome attractions – including the amazing games of Magic going on in the feature match area, which will be a ton of fun to watch!
What are the policies for trading at your events?
Trading is, of course, permitted at our Grand Prix events, but some things aren’t permitted on site and may result in ejection from the venue without refund. Examples include:
- Buying, selling, or soliciting to buy or sell cards with anyone except Authorized Vendors.
- Altering or offering to alter cards in exchange for money or any type of compensation.
- Taking up excessive space while trading or transporting excessive amounts of trade stock.
- Advertising without permission from ChannelFireball.com event staff.
If you have questions about other things or notice behavior that violates these rules, please let a ChannelFireball event staff member know.
I registered, and thought I was going to attend, but I missed the event. Can I get my registration package goodies? If not, can I get a refund?
We can’t give registration items to players who miss the event. If you registered but weren’t able to make it to the event, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org to request a refund.
I won prizes in the main event of one of your Grand Prix events. How will I receive my prizes?
Wizards of the Coast is responsible for all Grand Prix main event prizing. All prizes are paid through i-Payout. Read more details about the Prize Payment Announcement, then log into your Wizards Account at accounts.wizards.com to make sure your information is up to date.
